Play In The Park

Play In The Park

The Hawthorn is just steps away from Fairmount Park West. The 1,400 acres is home to a variety of things to do. You can visit the Please Touch Museum, or take a walk through the Philadelphia Zoo. If you want to connect to nature, you can visit the Horticulture Center, the Shofuso Japanese House and Garden, Concourse Lake, and much more.

If you’re looking to get moving, explore your BMX skills at the Philly Pumptrack, practice your backswing at the parkside tennis court, or play some 1v1 at the parkside basketball courts. For something more relaxing, the park is a beautiful space to walk around, explore and simply enjoy nature.

Other Activities

The Hawthorn has plenty of other ways to pass the time as well.

One of our favorite nightime activities is catching a concert at The Mann Center, located less than five minutes from The Hawthorn. As one of the country's largest non-profit open-air music centers, the Mann presents world-class artists during their concert season (May – September).

For a daytime break, the Bala Golf club is a quick seven-minute drive away and is open to members seven days a week.

Shopping

The Hawthorn is close to two main shopping destinations so you will have everything you need close by. City Line Avenue is less than 10 minutes north, featuring a variety of restaurants, grocery stores, service, and shops like Target, Saks Fifth Ave, Verizon, and Michaels.

About 15 minutes west you will find Ardmore’s Suburban Square. Featuring shops like Lululemon and Apple. Shopping like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. As well as restaurants like Shake Shack, Sweetgreen, and Tired Hands Brewing.

The Neighborhood

Wynnefield is defined by City Avenue and Fairmount Park, and the Bala Golf Club and Cardinal Avenue. Local politicians with Wynnefield ties include Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter, former mayor Wilson Goode, city councilman Curtis Jones, Jr, and councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown.
